Neurotoxins

Neurotoxins (Botox® & Dysport®)

Improve Lines With Little Downtime

At Refine Dermatology, we offer Botox® by Allergan, Dysport® by Galderma, Xeomin® by Merz and Newtox® by Jeveau. These are some of the most trusted neurotoxins used for softening fine lines, preventing new wrinkles, and achieving a natural, rested look. Neurotoxins temporarily relax specific facial muscles that create dynamic lines from everyday expressions like smiling, squinting, frowning, and raising your brows.

What Are Neurotoxins?

Neurotoxins (such as Botox® and Dysport®) are a type of toxin that is made by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. When injected in precise amounts, they reduce the muscle contractions that cause wrinkles to form. Because so many lines are the result of repeated facial movement over time, neurotoxins are one of the most effective treatments for anti-aging.

How Do Neurotoxins Work?

Botox® and Dysport® work at the neuromuscular junction by temporarily blocking the release of acetylcholine, which is the neurotransmitter that tells muscles to contract. As the muscle relaxes, expression lines soften. With consistent treatments, lines can appear less etched over time. The body naturally forms new nerve connections over 2–3 months, which is why results are temporary. You will not lose expression—our goal is to keep you looking like you, just smoother and more refreshed.

What to Expect at Your Appointment

You can expect a quick and comfortable appointment!

1.Dr. Salyards will cleanse and map your treatment areas

2.Small injections are placed precisely into the targeted muscles

3.You may feel a light pinch, but most patients describe the treatment as very tolerable

At your two-week follow-up, Dr. Salyards will assess symmetry and fine-tune if needed. Regular treatments can slightly prolong your results due to gradual muscle atrophy.

Potential Risks and Side Effects

Most side effects are mild and temporary:

Minor swelling, redness, or bruising

Headache

Flu-like symptoms (less common)

Technique-related risks such as eyelid droop or a temporary crooked smile are rare and minimized when injections are performed by a professional with advanced knowledge of facial anatomy.

How Much Does Botox® or Dysport® Cost?

At Refine Dermatology, we do not charge by the unit. Instead, pricing is based on the number of areas treated. Why? Because your results matter more than a unit count. Area-based pricing allows us to use the amount of product needed to achieve natural, balanced, beautiful results. It also includes a complimentary touch-up at your two-week follow-up.

Neurotoxin FAQs (Botox® & Dysport®)

How long does Botox or Dysport last?

Most patients enjoy results for about three months. With consistent treatment, some individuals may experience longer-lasting results due to gradual muscle relaxation over time.

When will I see results after my injections?

You may notice early improvements as soon as 24–72 hours after your treatment, but full correction appears around 10–14 days.

Does getting Botox or Dysport hurt?

Discomfort is minimal. Most patients describe the injections as a quick pinch.

Will I look frozen or unnatural?

No. Our treatment style focuses on natural, refreshed results. You’ll still be able to make normal expressions; your lines will just appear softer and smoother.

Is neurotoxin safe?

Botox, Dysport, and other neurotoxins have been used safely for decades when administered by trained medical professionals. Side effects are generally mild and temporary.

What areas of the face can Botox or Dysport treat?

Common treatment areas include:

Forehead lines

Frown lines (11s)

Crow’s feet

Lip lines + lip flip

Can neurotoxins prevent wrinkles?

How much does Botox or Dysport cost?

We charge per treatment area, not per unit, which allows us to tailor your treatment for natural, balanced results. Pricing includes a complimentary 2-week follow-up and adjustments if needed.
