Microneedling Dermatology

Microneedling & Exosomes Microneedling with Plated Intense

Microneedling is a versatile treatment with little downtime that can be used to treat several different types of skin conditions. This treatment uses the body’s own wound healing processes to improve the overall appearance of your skin. Conditions that can be improved with

Microneedling include:

  • Acne or surgical scars
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Large pores
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Stretchmarks
  • Uneven skin texture

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a medical procedure that involves creating micro-injuries in the skin using sterilized needles. These small wounds initiate a healing process whereby collagen and elastic production is stimulated. SkinPen® is the first FDA-cleared Microneedling device and sets the industry standard for safety and is the device we use at Refine Dermatology.

What to Expect at my Microneedling Visit

Microneedling is typically very well-tolerated and almost painless when performed with a topical numbing agent. When you come to the office, we will apply a topical anesthetic prior to the procedure. If you are having PRFM performed with microneedling, see microneedling with PRFM. Once you are numb, we will clean your face, apply the glide gel and start the procedure. The Microneedling procedure takes about 30 minutes, so plan to be with us for about an hour.

How Many Microneedling Treatments do I Need?

Depending on the skin condition being treated and desired outcomes, the number of treatments needed can vary. Best results are typically seen when 3-6 treatments are performed in a series 1 month apart.

What Can I Expect After my Treatment?

There is very little downtime associated with Microneedling. The treated area may be pink and mildly inflamed, similar to a sunburn, for 24-48 hours following your SkinPen procedure. Immediately after your treatment, you will be given a kit of topicals to use for the 72 hours following your treatment. You will need to avoid sun exposure for 24 hours following your treatment. We also advise that you keep your skin clean of any cosmetics or sunscreen for 24 hours following the procedure. Avoid strenuous exercise or excessive perspiration for 72 hours after treatment. The benefits of Microneedling will begin almost immediately, however visible changes will continue to improve for up to 6 months after treatment.

What is Exosomes Microneedling with Plated Intense?

Exosomes microneedling is an advanced version of traditional microneedling. It incorporates the use of exosomes—a cell-derived component rich in growth factors and proteins—to enhance the skin's regenerative process. Plated Intense, a premium topical exosome product, is applied after the procedure to maximize rejuvenation results and take home the product to use for added benefits for the next 6 weeks.

Benefits of Exosomes Microneedling with Plated Intense:

  • Accelerated Healing: Exosomes provide powerful regenerative signals, speeding up the skin's healing process.
  • Enhanced Anti-Aging Effects: Plated Intense promotes deeper collagen and elastin formation, resulting in more pronounced anti-aging benefits.
  • Reduced Inflammation: The treatment helps reduce redness and swelling, providing a more comfortable experience.

How Do These Treatments Differ?

While both treatments aim to improve skin quality, exosomes microneedling with Plated Intense offers additional benefits due to the application of exosomes. Traditional microneedling focuses on creating micro-injuries to induce collagen production, whereas exosomes microneedling enhances this process by delivering potent growth factors directly into the skin.

What to Expect

After undergoing microneedling, whether traditional or with the advanced exosomes treatment using Plated Intense, it is important to understand the post-procedure experience to ensure optimal results and a smooth recovery. Here's what you can anticipate:

Immediate Reactions

  1. Redness and Swelling: It's common to experience mild to moderate redness and swelling immediately following the procedure. This is a normal response to the micro-injuries created by the needles and typically resembles a mild sunburn. These effects usually diminish within 24 to 48 hours.
  2. Sensitivity and Warmth: Your skin might feel more sensitive and warm to the touch, similar to a sunburn. This sensation typically subsides within a few hours to a day.

Short-Term Recovery

  1. Tightness and Dryness: As your skin starts to heal, you may notice a feeling of tightness and slight dryness. This occurs as the skin begins the natural process of regeneration and collagen production.
  2. Mild Flaking or Peeling: Some individuals experience mild flaking or peeling as dead skin cells shed and new skin emerges. This is a sign that the treatment is working to rejuvenate your skin.

Long-Term Results

  1. Gradual Improvement in Skin Texture: Over the course of several weeks, you will begin to notice an improvement in skin texture and appearance. Fine lines, wrinkles, and scars may become less noticeable as collagen production increases.
  2. Enhanced Skincare Absorption: Post-treatment, your skin is more receptive to skincare products. This increased absorption can enhance the effectiveness of serums and moisturizers, further improving your skin's appearance.
  3. Ongoing Collagen Production: Collagen and elastin production can continue for several months after treatment, leading to ongoing improvements in skin firmness and elasticity.

Aftercare Tips

  • Hydration: Keep your skin well-hydrated using gentle, non-comedogenic moisturizers to aid in the healing process.
  • Sun Protection: Protect your skin from UV rays by applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily, as your skin will be more vulnerable to sun damage post-treatment.
  • Avoid Harsh Products: Refrain from using exfoliants, retinoids, and other potentially irritating products until your skin fully heals.

Both treatments are safe and effective options for those looking to rejuvenate their skin. Our team of professionals is here to guide you through the process and help you achieve the radiant skin you desire.
